Dubrovnik Car Rent, run by TECHNIC ONE d.o.o., is a private transfer and car-with-driver service in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Despite its name it does not rent cars to drive yourself: every booking is a car or minivan with a driver, for an airport or cruise-port transfer, a ride between hotels and the Old Town, a transfer or day trip to Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina, or hire by the hour. Prices are per vehicle, agreed before travel.

How this service works

## Car hire with a driver and private transfers: what one booking covers

You hire the vehicle and the driver together, for a single transfer, a few hours or a whole day, and you never drive yourself. One price per vehicle covers the driver, fuel, tolls, luggage and VAT, and at the airport your driver waits with a name sign, with 60 minutes of waiting included after landing.

*Image: A black Mercedes-Benz E-Class saloon, one of the cars in our Dubrovnik car hire with a driver — Mercedes-Benz E-Class — model shown for illustration · [Photo: Charles from Port Chester, New York, CC BY 2.0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-vehicle-e-class-saloon)*

The name says car rent, and the car does come with everything a hired car needs, but it also comes with the person who drives it. That matters most in the places where a car you drive yourself is hardest to use: the airport run after a late landing, the streets around the Old Town, which form a [restricted traffic zone](https://www.dubrovnik.hr/za-gradane/zona-posebnog-prometnog-rezima-19560) from 1 April to 31 October, and the borders with Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where a [guide that tracks the crossing](https://montenegrodigitalnomad.com/montenegro-blog/montenegro-border-webcams/) puts the wait on the busiest summer days at two to five hours.

### Included in every booking

- The driver for the whole booking, in the vehicle you chose: a saloon or business car for up to four, a premium minivan for up to seven or a minivan for up to eight.
- Fuel, motorway and bridge tolls, VAT and your luggage.
- A name sign at the airport and flight monitoring, so the pick-up follows the real landing time.
- 60 minutes of waiting after landing at the airport, and 15 minutes at any other pick-up.
- Child seats and boosters at no charge: tell us each child’s age when you book.

### What you leave out

There is no rental desk, no deposit held on a credit card, no damage excess, no fuel to return and no parking space to find. Nothing on the road is your problem either: the driver deals with where the vehicle may stop near the Old Town and which crossing to take into Montenegro.

### Booking

Send the trip, the date, the time and the number of passengers with the booking form, on WhatsApp or by email. We reply with one price for the vehicle, 08:00–20:00 daily, usually within the hour. Nothing is paid in advance for a standard booking: you pay the driver in euros, in cash or by card. Cancelling is free up to 24 hours before the pick-up time. The [price list](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/#prices) shows every route we price in advance, and a car and driver [by the hour](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/#by-the-hour) covers a day with several stops.

Price list

## Transfer prices for 2026: one figure per vehicle, agreed in advance

Each route has one price per vehicle, however many passengers ride in it: €50 by car or €65 by eight-seat minivan from the airport to the Old Town, and €255 by car to Kotor. Fuel, tolls, waiting time and VAT are included, and the price is confirmed before you travel.

The tables list every route we price in advance, with one column per vehicle. A price is for the vehicle and its driver, not for each seat, so four friends in the Volkswagen Passat pay the same as one traveller, and the prices are the same in every month of the year. There is no charge per kilometre and no surcharge for nights, weekends, public holidays or paying by card. A return journey costs twice the one-way price.

A trip that is not in the tables below, to Zadar, Zagreb or Podgorica for example, is priced the same way: send the addresses, the date and the number of passengers, and we reply with one price for the vehicle, usually within the hour during office hours.

You pay the driver at the end of the journey, in euros, in cash or by card. For a booking with several stops, or a day out with no fixed route, the hourly and day rates in the [section on hiring by the hour](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/#by-the-hour) are usually the better fit.

Arrivals

## Dubrovnik Airport transfers: your driver waits in arrivals

Your driver stands in the public arrivals hall of Building B, just past the exit from the baggage hall, holding a sign with your name. We follow your flight, so a delay moves the pick-up with it, and the first 60 minutes after landing are included. The drive to the Old Town is about 22 km.

*Image: Terminal C of Dubrovnik Airport at Čilipi; arrivals are in Building B beside it — Dubrovnik Airport (DBV), Terminal C · [Photo: Wingtip, CC0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-airport-terminal-c)*

[Dubrovnik Airport](https://www.dbv.hr/en/getting-to-dbv/54) stands at Čilipi, 22.5 km from the city. The airport puts the drive at 30 to 35 minutes on average and tells travellers to allow up to an hour in the summer months, and we plan pick-ups the same way. Cavtat is the nearest resort, about 6 km from the terminal, while the hotels of Lapad and Babin Kuk are about 25 km away on the far side of the city.

### Passport control and the Entry/Exit System

Passengers from outside the Schengen area, from the United Kingdom, Ireland or the United States for example, go through passport control before the baggage hall. Since 10 April 2026 the [EU Entry/Exit System](https://home-affairs.ec.europa.eu/policies/schengen/smart-borders/entry-exit-system_en) has recorded non-EU visitors’ fingerprints and a facial image on their first entry, and the airport has [self-service kiosks](https://www.dbv.hr/en/eu-entry-exit-system-faq-important-information-for-passengers/1879) for the first registration. A first entry can take a while, which is why the pick-up follows your landing and not the timetable.

### Late flights

Flights keep landing late into the night: on 1 October 2026 the [arrivals board](https://www.dbv.hr/en/arrivals/40) showed the last evening flights at 23:40 and two more due after midnight. Cars with a driver run at any hour of the day or night, booked in advance, so a late landing changes nothing about the plan.

### Shuttle, taxi or a car with a driver?

The official airport shuttle, run by [Platanus](https://platanus.hr/dubrovnik-airport-shuttle/), costs €10 one way in 2026 and stops only at Ploče Gate and the main bus station in Gruž, so it does not reach Lapad, Babin Kuk, Cavtat or Župa dubrovačka. Taxis wait outside the arrivals building, and [travel guides](https://croatiaguidebook.com/transport/dubrovnik-airport-to-city/) put the fare to the Old Town at anywhere between about €35 and €60. A car with a driver costs €50 for up to four passengers, booked before you fly and the same at any hour.

### Booking an airport pick-up

1. Send the flight number, the landing time, how many passengers and suitcases, and the address you are going to.
2. We email back one price for the vehicle and the name of the meeting point.
3. After landing, follow the signs to the exit from the baggage hall: your driver is waiting in the hall beyond the door.

The [airport page](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/car-rental-dubrovnik-airport/) has each destination in detail, from the Old Town to Cavtat and the Montenegrin border.

Hourly hire

## A car and driver by the hour or for the whole day

Book the car and driver for at least 3 hours at €50 an hour, for a half day of 4 hours at €190 or a full day of 8 hours at €360, per vehicle. Your driver stays with the car while you visit and drives on when you are ready.

Hiring by the hour suits a day with several stops and no fixed timetable: you decide the plan, the driver keeps the car close, and nobody has to watch the clock on a parking meter. A full day includes 300 km of driving, which covers most round trips from Dubrovnik. A one-way journey to a single place is usually cheaper as a route from the [price list](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/#prices).

### Days people often plan

- **Ston and the Pelješac peninsula.** Ston is 55 km away, 1–1¼ hours by road. The [Walls of Ston](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walls_of_Ston), begun by the Republic of Dubrovnik in 1358 to guard the salt pans, still run for about 5.5 km, and the pans are still worked.
- **Trsteno.** The [arboretum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trsteno_Arboretum) existed by 1492 and stood in for the gardens of the Red Keep in Game of Thrones; it is about 20 km north-west of the city, under half an hour away.
- **Cavtat and Konavle.** The small harbour town of Cavtat and the valley villages beyond it, towards the Montenegrin border.
- **A cruise day.** The driver meets you at the Gruž port and plans the day around your all-aboard time.

### How to book hourly hire

Hourly hire is arranged by message rather than on the booking form, because the plan decides the hours. Send the date, the start time, the number of passengers and a rough plan, and we reply with the price. Crossing into Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina on an hourly booking is possible when everyone in the car carries a passport.

Vehicles

## Four vehicles: which one fits your group?

Pick by passengers and luggage together. The Volkswagen Passat seats up to four with three large suitcases, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class up to four with two, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class up to seven and a minivan up to eight, each with a suitcase per passenger. Child seats come free on request.

Each card names the model the vehicle class is based on, and the photographs show the same models rather than our own vehicles. Count a large suitcase as one checked bag. Golf bags, bicycles, prams and surfboards need room of their own, so mention them when you book and we match the vehicle to the load. A group of more than eight books two vehicles for the same pick-up time.

Beyond the city

## Day trips and long-distance transfers with a driver

Choose a route from the price list for a one-way journey, such as Dubrovnik to Split or Kotor, or book the car and driver by the hour for a round trip with stops. The routes run north along the coast to Ston, Korčula and Split, south into Montenegro, or inland to Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

*Image: Cars on a coastal road cut into limestone cliffs above the Adriatic, with a tunnel ahead — A coastal road cut into the cliffs above the Adriatic · [Photo: Jos., CC BY 3.0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-coastal-road-cliffs)*

Every trip starts at your door: a hotel, an apartment, the port or the nearest permitted stop to the Old Town. The driver takes the fastest road unless you ask for a slower one, and stops wherever you want to look, eat or take photographs. We confirm each stop, and anything it adds to the fixed price, before you travel.

### Ston and the Pelješac peninsula

Ston is 55 km north-west of the city, 1–1¼ hours by road. Its walls, begun in 1358, climb the hill between Ston and Mali Ston, and the salt pans they were built to protect are still worked, according to the [history of the Walls of Ston](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walls_of_Ston). Beyond Ston the road runs along the Pelješac peninsula towards Orebić.

### Korčula from Orebić

Orebić is 110 km away, 2–2¼ hours by the coast road and the Pelješac Bridge, and the car ferry from there crosses to Dominče, about 3 km from Korčula town, in about 20 minutes, on the state ferry line run by Jadrolinija ([Orebić](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orebi%C4%87)). The listed route covers the drive to Orebić; the crossing to the island is planned with you when we confirm the booking.

The three longer trips follow: Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the coast road to Split.

### Along the coast north of the city

**Along the coast north of the city, 2026**

| From Dubrovnik to | By road | Time on the road | Standard car<br>1–4 passengers | Minivan<br>5–8 passengers | Business car<br>1–4 passengers | Premium minivan<br>1–7 passengers |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Ston | 55 km | 1–1¼ hours | €130 | €160 | €185 | €185 |
| Orebić / Korčula | 110 km | 2–2¼ hours | €200 | €260 | €300 | €300 |

Euros for the whole vehicle with its driver, one way, 2026; fuel, tolls, luggage and VAT included. Times assume ordinary traffic, so add some in July and August.

### Kotor, Perast and Budva: transfers and day trips in Montenegro

Kotor is about 92 km from Dubrovnik on the road round the Bay of Kotor, 2–2¼ hours before any queue at the border. Everyone needs a passport, or an identity card for EU citizens, and the car crosses at Karasovići–Debeli Brijeg, where Croatian and then Montenegrin police check each traveller. A car to Kotor costs €255.

*Image: A hairpin bend on the R-1 mountain road between Kotor and Njeguši in Montenegro — A hairpin on the R-1 road above Kotor · [Photo: Milica Buha, CC BY-SA 4.0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-lovcen-serpentine)*

Montenegro is outside the EU and the Schengen area, so the road crosses an external border with two checks. Non-EU visitors are registered in the [EU Entry/Exit System](https://home-affairs.ec.europa.eu/policies/schengen/smart-borders/entry-exit-system_en) on their first crossing, and Croatia’s [interior ministry](https://mup.gov.hr/pristup-informacijama-16/najcesca-pitanja-219/entry-exit-sustav-ees/294405) warns that road checks take longer because some passengers must step out of the vehicle to register. Visitors who flew in to Dubrovnik were registered at the airport and need only the quicker face check.

Waits change with the season. A [border guide](https://montenegrodigitalnomad.com/montenegro-blog/montenegro-border-webcams/) puts the usual wait at Karasovići at 15 to 30 minutes from November to April, 30 to 60 minutes in May, June, September and October, and two to five hours on the busiest days of July and August, and advises crossing before 08:00 or after about 21:00. The Croatian Automobile Club streams [live cameras from both crossings](https://m.hak.hr/kamera.asp?g=2&k=141).

### Documents for Montenegro

- EU citizens may stay up to 30 days on a national identity card and up to 90 on a passport, according to the [Government of Montenegro](https://www.gov.me/en/article/visas).
- British, American, Canadian and Australian visitors need a passport and no visa for stays of up to 90 days.
- A passport must have been issued within the last ten years and stay valid for three months after you leave.
- Visitors must be registered within 24 hours of arrival; hotels do it for their guests, says the [UK travel advice](https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/montenegro/entry-requirements).

### The ferry or the bay road

The [Kamenari–Lepetane ferry](https://trajekt.me/red-voznje/) across the narrowest point of the bay shortens the way to Tivat and Budva; in the 2026 summer timetable it sailed every 15 to 20 minutes around the clock. For Kotor itself the road round the bay is only about 20 minutes longer, so in summer, when queues at the ramp can take 30 to 45 minutes, the bay road often wins. Kotor’s old town is closed to cars, and [its walls](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortifications_of_Kotor) climb some 260 to 280 m to the fortress above.

On the way back, re-entering Croatia means entering the EU again: meat and dairy products bought in Montenegro may not be brought in at all, according to the EU’s [Your Europe](https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/carry/meat-dairy-animal/index_en.htm) guidance.

4. **Perast** Boats leave the waterfront for Our Lady of the Rocks, an islet built up since 1452.
5. **Kotor** The walled old town is closed to cars; the climb to the fortress has about 1,350 steps.

### Mostar, Međugorje and Sarajevo: transfers to Bosnia and Herzegovina

Mostar is about 146 km from Dubrovnik, 2½–2¾ hours by the fastest road, which crosses the Pelješac Bridge and enters Bosnia and Herzegovina at Metković–Doljani. Bring passports, and plan the day around the old bridge: a car to Mostar costs €240, and Međugorje and the Kravica waterfall lie close to the same road.

*Image: Mostar's old town and the Neretva river at sunset, with a minaret and the hills behind — Mostar old town at sunset · [Photo: Duesseljan, CC0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-mostar-sunset)*

Bosnia and Herzegovina is outside the EU and the Schengen area, so the crossing at Metković–Doljani has a check on each side, and non-EU visitors leaving Croatia are checked against their record in the [Entry/Exit System](https://home-affairs.ec.europa.eu/policies/schengen/smart-borders/entry-exit-system_en). British visitors may stay up to 90 days in a six-month period, with a passport less than ten years old that stays valid for 90 days after they leave, and every foreign visitor must be registered with the police within 72 hours, which hotels normally do, according to the [UK travel advice](https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/bosnia-and-herzegovina/entry-requirements).

### The Old Bridge

[Stari Most](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stari_Most) was built by Mimar Hayruddin between 1557 and 1566–1567, destroyed on 9 November 1993 and rebuilt to reopen on 23 July 2004; the Old Bridge area was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2005. Formal diving from the bridge dates from 1968, and the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series has stopped there since 2015.

### On the same road

- **Kravica.** The [falls on the Trebižat](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kravica_%28waterfall%29), about 10 km south of Ljubuški, are about 25 m high and about 122 km from the city by road.
- **Međugorje.** Reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary began here on 24 June 1981, and on 19 September 2024 the Holy See granted a “nihil obstat” allowing pilgrimages; the village receives about one million visitors a year ([Međugorje](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medjugorje)).
- **Sarajevo.** The capital is 272 km by road, a full day’s journey that is usually booked one way.

Customs on the return work as for Montenegro: meat and dairy products bought in Bosnia and Herzegovina may not be brought back into the EU.

### Split and Makarska: the transfer north over the Pelješac Bridge

Split is about 235 km from Dubrovnik, 3¼–3¾ hours by the coast road and the A1 motorway, and the drive no longer leaves Croatia: since the Pelješac Bridge opened in July 2022 there is no border at Neum. A car to Split costs €330, tolls included, with stops on the way if you ask.

*Image: The Pelješac Bridge on its concrete piers across Mali Ston Bay, the road north from Dubrovnik to Split — The Pelješac Bridge, opened in July 2022 · [Photo: kallerna, CC BY-SA 4.0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-peljesac-bridge-pylons)*

Before the bridge, the coast road crossed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s strip of coast at Neum, with two border checks within about 9 km ([Pelješac Bridge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelje%C5%A1ac_Bridge)). Today the road stays in Croatia: the European Commission says the [EU contributed €357,284,407](https://ec.europa.eu/regional_policy/projects/projects-database/peljesac-bridge-improves-links-with-croatia-s-south-dalmatia-region_en) to the project, which includes the 2.4 km bridge, an 8 km bypass of Ston and the access roads, and that it cut the drive between the two parts of the D8 from at best 59 minutes to 22.

North of the bridge the road joins the A1 motorway, whose southern end is still the Ploče interchange ([A1 motorway](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A1_%28Croatia%29)); the motorway tolls are part of the route price. The whole way along the coast road, without the motorway, is about 244 km and about four and a quarter hours by OpenStreetMap routing, so it suits a day with stops rather than a transfer.

4. **Pelješac Bridge** About 2.4 km across Mali Ston Bay, open since 26 July 2022.
5. **Makarska** The Makarska Riviera, about 159 km from the city by the coast road.
6. **Split** Drop-off at your hotel, the ferry port or Split Airport.

Around the city

## Where your driver meets you

Your driver collects you wherever the car can stop: the arrivals hall at the airport, the Gruž ferry and cruise port, your hotel or apartment in Lapad, Babin Kuk, Gruž or Ploče, Cavtat and Župa dubrovačka, or the nearest permitted stop to the Old Town. Away from the airport, 15 minutes of waiting are included.

Short rides are priced like any other route, per vehicle: €25 by car from the port to the Old Town and €50 between the city and Cavtat. Many apartments in Dubrovnik sit on stepped lanes that no car can reach, so when we confirm the booking we agree the nearest point where the driver can stop. The pages below cover each pick-up point in detail.

The traffic zone

## How close can a car get to the Old Town?

No car may enter the Old Town, and from 1 April to 31 October the streets around its walls form a restricted traffic zone for vehicles with a pass or pre-arranged access. Your driver stops at the nearest permitted point, confirmed before the day; from the Pile drop-off area, Pile Gate is a two-minute walk.

*Image: Stradun and the Franciscan monastery bell tower seen from Dubrovnik's city walls, a car-free street — Stradun from the city walls: the Old Town has no roads for cars · [Photo: donald judge, CC BY 2.0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-old-town-stradun-view)*

The walled town is a pedestrian area, and since an amendment of 26 February 2026 the [special traffic zone](https://www.dubrovnik.hr/za-gradane/zona-posebnog-prometnog-rezima-19560) around it runs every year from 1 April to 31 October, from Ilijina glavica along Zagrebačka ulica to Viktorija and from Pile to Boninovo. Cameras read number plates at the entrances, and the City’s [decision on the zone](https://www.dubrovnik.hr/uploads/pages/351/1-DECISION-on-the-conditions-for-vehicle-access-to-circulation-within-and-exit-from-the-traffic.pdf) sets the fine for unauthorised entry at €260 for a private individual and €1,320 for a company.

### Where a driver can set you down

- **Pile.** The drop-off area and bus stop are about 115 m from Pile Gate, a two-minute walk, by OpenStreetMap walking routes.
- **Ploče.** The bus stop on the east side is about 65 m from Ploče Gate; Stradun links the two gates in 7 to 8 minutes on foot.
- **Minivans.** Under the City’s [rules for minivans and buses](https://www.dubrovnik.hr/uploads/pages/351/3-DECISION-On-the-Stopping-and-Parking-of-Tourist-Buses-and-M1-Category-Passenger-Vehicles-with-a-Capacity-of-%287+1%29-and-%288+1%29within-the-Special-Traffic-Regulation-Zone.pdf), a 7+1 or 8+1 vehicle may stop only at the designated area at Pile, in a booked slot of at most ten minutes, and the City charges €35 per drop-off from 1 March to 30 November. If your group travels by minivan, we tell you before the day whether that fee applies to your booking.
- **Hotels inside the zone.** Tell us the name of the hotel when you book, and we confirm where the driver will stop before the day.

The Dubrovnik Tourist Board [notes](https://experiencedubrovnik.com/en/dubrovnik/dubrovnik-bez-prepreka) that the Old City is known for steep steps and stone alleys, while Stradun and many of the main sights are on flat ground: worth knowing with heavy cases. The [Old Town page](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/car-hire-dubrovnik-old-town/) has the drop-off points and walking times for each gate.

How to book

## How booking a car and driver works

Tell us where from and where to, the date, the time and how many passengers, plus the flight number for an airport pick-up. We email back one price for the vehicle and the meeting point. On the day your driver meets you, and you pay at the end of the journey, in cash or by card.

1. **Tell us the trip** Where you start, where you are going, the date, the time and how many of you there are. For an airport pick-up, add the flight number.
2. **Receive the price** We email one price for the vehicle within an hour during office hours (08:00 to 20:00, Dubrovnik time), or early the next morning, with the place where the driver will meet you.
3. **Meet the driver** At the airport your driver holds a sign with your name in the arrivals hall; at a hotel or the port, the driver waits at the door or gate we agreed.
4. **Pay on the day** You pay the driver in euros, in cash or by card. Cancelling costs nothing up to 24 hours before the pick-up.

## Rent a car and drive, or hire one with a driver?

Driving yourself suits a long tour of many days. A driver suits the trips where a hired car is most awkward: airport runs, a stay in or near the Old Town, a day with wine tastings, or a border crossing in summer. Our price per vehicle covers the driver, fuel and tolls, with no deposit or excess.

*Image: Fort Lovrijenac above the sea, seen from Ante Starčevića road on the approach to Pile — Fort Lovrijenac from the road down to Pile · [Photo: Jules Verne Times Two, CC BY 4.0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-lovrijenac-road)*

Self-drive rental is a good tool for a week of touring, and Dubrovnik Airport alone lists [18 rental brands](https://www.dbv.hr/en/taxi-and-rent-a-car/58). Around Dubrovnik itself, though, several costs land on the driver rather than the car, and they are worth weighing before you book either.

| | Driving a hired car yourself | A car with a driver |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Who drives | You, under Croatian rules, with a drink-drive limit of 0.5 g/kg | Our driver |
| Money held on your card | A deposit, usually about the size of the damage excess | None |
| The Old Town zone, 1 April to 31 October | Entry only with access arranged in advance; €260 fine for a private driver without it | The nearest permitted stop, confirmed before the day |
| Parking near the walls | €7 an hour or €40 a day in the public garage | Not needed |
| Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina | The rental company’s written permission | A listed route; passports for everyone |
| Price | A daily rate plus fuel, tolls and parking | One price per vehicle, fuel and tolls included |

### Deposits, excess and borders

The European Consumer Centre France explains that [most rental companies](https://www.europe-consommateurs.eu/en/topics/vehicles/car-rental/) take the deposit as an authorisation on your card, that it generally matches the excess, and that larger cars carry larger deposits. The same centre warns that rental contracts set geographical limits and that crossing a border without the company’s permission can void the insurance. With a driver, none of this lands on you: the vehicle, its insurance and its paperwork are the operator’s responsibility.

### The traffic zone and fines

Driving into the [zone around the Old Town](https://www.dubrovnik.hr/uploads/pages/351/1-DECISION-on-the-conditions-for-vehicle-access-to-circulation-within-and-exit-from-the-traffic.pdf) without access costs a private individual €260, and since a [decision of 5 May 2026](https://www.dubrovnik.hr/sluzbeni-glasnik?odluka=2418) a rental company that identifies the renter within three days is fined €260 instead of the standard company fine. The German consumer centre [reports](https://www.evz.de/en/topics/transport/car/fines-abroad/dubrovnik-restricted-zone/) rental-car cases that cost drivers more than €1,600.

### Parking

The public garage at Ilijina glavica, outside the zone, charges [€7 an hour or €40 for 24 hours](https://www.bestinparking.com/en/hr/garage/garage-iiijina-glavica) and is an 8-minute walk from Pile Gate. The two car parks closest to the walls, at Pile and below the cable car, are booked online and cost [€20 for the first hour and €250 a day](https://www.sanitat.hr/parking-zones-prices-payment) from May to October.

### Drinking and driving

Croatia’s [Road Traffic Safety Act](https://www.zakon.hr/z/78/zakon-o-sigurnosti-prometa-na-cestama) sets a limit of 0.5 g/kg for ordinary drivers and zero for professional drivers and drivers up to the age of 24. With a driver, the wine tasting on Pelješac is yours to enjoy.

Taxi or driver

## Taxi, Uber or a driver booked in advance?

A taxi from the airport to the Old Town costs about €35 to €60, according to travel guides, and ride apps such as Uber and Bolt also work in Dubrovnik. A car with a driver costs €50 on the same route, agreed before you travel, with your driver already waiting when you land.

*Image: Dubrovnik Airport's runway on the Konavle plateau at Čilipi, seen from the hills above — The airport at Čilipi on the Konavle plateau · [Photo: Bracodbk, CC BY-SA 3.0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-airport-runway-konavle)*

Taxis at the airport wait in front of the arrivals building, and the [airport](https://www.dbv.hr/en/taxi-and-rent-a-car/58) posts the price list at the taxi information window and reminds passengers that drivers must issue a receipt. Fares in Croatia are set by each taxi operator, which is why [travel guides](https://croatiaguidebook.com/transport/dubrovnik-airport-to-city/) quote such a wide range for the airport run.

That changes on 1 January 2027, when [national maximum tariffs](https://narodne-novine.nn.hr/clanci/sluzbeni/2026_09_111_1318.html) take effect: €10.00 to start, €2.50 a kilometre, €0.50 a minute of driving and €0.50 a minute of waiting, each 40% higher for vehicles with seven or more passenger seats. In the city, Dubrovnik’s taxi association says cars display a [maximum of €25](https://www.dubrovniknet.hr/dubrovacki-taksisti-pozdravljaju-izmjene-zakona-o-cestovnom-prijevozu-mi-smo-se-vec-uskladili-a-sve-bi-rijesile-kontrole-na-pilama-i-aerodromu/) for a ride and that typical fares are €5 to €9.

Ride apps work too, and under the [Road Transport Act as amended in 2026](https://narodne-novine.nn.hr/clanci/sluzbeni/2026_07_77_901.html) an app must show the maximum price and the planned route before you get in. The traffic zone limits them, though: when the zone began in 2025 the Mayor said Uber and Bolt could [assign rides inside it only to drivers with a City permit](https://www.juzni.hr/frankovic-uber-i-bolt-moci-ce-dodijeliti-voznje-samo-onima-koji-imaju-nasu-dozvolu.html), so an app ride may end at the edge of the zone. Licensed taxis may enter only when the operator leases a reserved stand, works for the port or the airport, or holds one of the City’s [zone passes](https://www.dubrovnik.hr/uploads/pages/351/1-DECISION-on-the-conditions-for-vehicle-access-to-circulation-within-and-exit-from-the-traffic.pdf).

| | Taxi | Ride app | Car with a driver |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| When you know the price | From the meter or the operator’s price list | In the app, before you get in | When you book |
| Airport pick-up | The rank outside arrivals | Arranged through the app | In the arrivals hall, with a name sign |
| Into the Old Town zone | Taxis with a reserved stand, port or airport status, or a City pass | Only drivers with a City permit | To the nearest permitted stop |

For a short ride across town, a taxi or an app is often the simplest choice. For the airport, a family with luggage, or anything beyond the city, a driver booked in advance takes the guesswork out of the price.

Seasons

## When to travel, and when to book your driver

July and August are the busiest months: Dubrovnik Airport counted a record 566,259 passengers in August 2026, and 86% of its 2025 passengers flew between May and October. Our prices stay the same all year and do not change with the date you book, so book as soon as you know your flight times.

*Image: A sailing boat at anchor off the wooded shore of Lapad, Dubrovnik's hotel peninsula — The shore of the Lapad peninsula · [Photo: trolvag, CC BY-SA 3.0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-lapad-bay)*

The [airport’s own statistics](https://www.dbv.hr/hr/statistike/76) show how sharply the season rises and falls. In 2026 it handled these passengers month by month:

| Month (2026) | Passengers at Dubrovnik Airport |
| --- | --- |
| January | 23,688 |
| February | 22,950 |
| March | 55,559 |
| April | 254,931 |
| May | 399,917 |
| June | 464,816 |
| July | 558,528 |
| August | 566,259 |

### What changes with the season

- **The Old Town zone** runs from 1 April to 31 October; outside those months, vehicles may drive round the Old Town under normal traffic rules, unless the Mayor switches the system on for a holiday or a big event, according to the [City’s decision](https://www.dubrovnik.hr/uploads/pages/351/1-DECISION-on-the-conditions-for-vehicle-access-to-circulation-within-and-exit-from-the-traffic.pdf).
- **Border queues** into Montenegro grow from 15 to 30 minutes in winter to two to five hours on peak summer days, by a [border guide’s estimate](https://montenegrodigitalnomad.com/montenegro-blog/montenegro-border-webcams/), so summer trips start early.
- **Cruise ships** call almost every day well into autumn: the port’s [arrivals calendar](https://www.lukadubrovnik.hr/kalendar-dolazaka/) listed 61 cruise arrivals for October 2026, on 30 of the month’s 31 days.
- **Winter flights** are far fewer: for winter 2025/26 the airport [announced](https://www.dbv.hr/en/historic-milestone-for-rudjer-boskovic-airport-three-millionth-passenger-welcomed-for-the-first-time/1715) a short list of routes, including Dublin, Manchester, Madrid, London and Zürich in November.

Because our prices do not rise in summer, the only reason to book early is to have the vehicle you want on a busy day. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the pick-up keeps an early booking flexible.

Families and groups

## Children, groups and luggage

Croatian law requires a child seat or booster for every child under 150 cm, with no exception for taxis or transfers, so tell us each child's age and height when you book: our child seats and boosters are free. Groups of up to eight fit one minivan; larger groups book two vehicles for the same time.

*Image: Small boats moored at wooden jetties in Cavtat harbour, with cypress trees and houses behind — Cavtat harbour · [Photo: Tiia Monto, CC BY 4.0](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/image-credits/#img-cavtat-harbour)*

The rules come from Croatia’s [Road Traffic Safety Act](https://www.zakon.hr/z/78/zakon-o-sigurnosti-prometa-na-cestama). Children shorter than 150 cm travel in a child seat or booster fixed with the belt or anchorage points; between 135 and 150 cm a child may use the adult belt, but only on a rear seat; and a rear-facing seat may go on a front seat only with the airbag switched off. The driver is fined €130 for carrying a child without the right restraint, and seat belts are compulsory for everyone on board.

### Choosing the seat

Under UN Regulation No 129, known as [i-Size](https://unece.org/DAM/trans/publications/WP29/CHILD_RESTRAINT_SYSTEMS_brochure.pdf), child seats are approved by the child’s height rather than weight, and babies ride rear-facing until at least 15 months. Give us each child’s age and height when you book, and the right seat is fitted before the pick-up.

### Groups and luggage

A minivan carries up to eight passengers with a suitcase each, and the premium minivan up to seven. For a wedding party or a larger family, book two vehicles for the same pick-up time. Prams, golf bags and bicycles need space of their own: tell us about them when you book.

## Places a day with a driver can reach

Most bookings start at the airport, the Gruž port or a hotel in Lapad, Cavtat or near the Old Town. The longer days follow the coast north to Ston, the Pelješac Bridge and Korčula, cross into Montenegro for the Bay of Kotor, or head inland to Mostar. These photographs show the places along those roads.

There is nothing to show here yet: the car-with-driver service on this site is new. When passengers start leaving reviews on Google and other public platforms, we will link to them here, unedited. We do not write reviews ourselves, pay for them or reward anyone for leaving one.

Until the first reviews arrive, the [company section](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/#company) below lists the details you can check for yourself, from the court register entry to the VAT number. The [reviews page](https://dubrovnikcarrent.com/reviews/) explains how reviews will be shown.

FAQ

## Questions people ask before booking

Short answers to the questions that come up most before a booking: what a car with a driver costs from the airport, whether renting a car is worth it, taxis and ride apps, where the driver waits, how close a car gets to the Old Town, cancellations, child seats, and the trips to Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Split.

### Is Dubrovnik Car Rent a self-drive car rental company?

No. Despite the name, every booking includes a driver: a private transfer or a car or minivan hired together with the person who drives it, for one ride, a few hours or a whole day. Nobody drives themselves, so there is no licence check, no deposit on a credit card and no damage excess.

### Is it worth renting a car in Dubrovnik?

For a stay in the Old Town, rarely: from 1 April to 31 October the streets around the walls are a traffic zone, and parking near them is scarce and charged by the hour. For days out to Ston, Kotor or Mostar a car helps, and a car with a driver gives you one without the parking, the zone or the driving.

### How much is a private transfer from Dubrovnik Airport to the Old Town?

€50 by car for up to four passengers, €65 by minivan for up to eight, or €75 by business car (2026 prices). The price is per vehicle, not per person, and includes fuel, tolls, luggage and VAT. The drive is about 22 km, 30–35 minutes, or up to an hour in summer traffic.

### Where does the driver meet us at Dubrovnik Airport?

In the public arrivals hall of Building B, just past the exit from the baggage hall, holding a sign with your name. We follow the flight number you give us, so the pick-up moves with a delay, and the first 60 minutes after landing are included.

### What happens if our flight is delayed or cancelled?

A delay changes nothing: the driver follows the real landing time. If the flight is cancelled or moved to another day, tell us and we rebook or cancel without charge.

### Can the driver take us into the Old Town?

No vehicle may drive into the walled Old Town, and from 1 April to 31 October the streets around it are a restricted traffic zone. The driver stops at the nearest permitted point, which we confirm before the day; from the Pile drop-off area, Pile Gate is about a two-minute walk.

### How do we book and pay?

Send the trip, the date, the time and the number of passengers with the booking form, on WhatsApp or by email. We reply with one price for the vehicle, 08:00–20:00 daily, usually within the hour. Nothing is paid in advance for a standard booking: you pay the driver in euros, in cash or by card. You pay the driver at the end of the journey, in euros, in cash or by card.

### Can we cancel or change a booking?

Yes. Cancelling or changing a booking is free up to 24 hours before the pickup time. If your flight is delayed or rescheduled, tell us the new flight number and we move the pickup at no cost.

### Do you have child seats?

Yes, free of charge. Croatian law requires a child seat or booster for every child under 150 cm, with no exception for transfers, so tell us each child's age and height when you book and the right seat is fitted before the pick-up.

### Can we hire a car and driver for a few hours?

Yes: at least 3 hours at €50 an hour by car, a half day of 4 hours for €190 or a full day of 8 hours for €360, per vehicle, with 300 km included in a day. Hourly hire is arranged by message, so send the date, start time, passengers and plan.

### Can we go to Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina?

Yes. Kotor costs €255 and Mostar €240 by car, per vehicle. Both countries are outside the EU and Schengen, so everyone needs a passport (EU citizens may use an identity card for Montenegro), and in summer the border queue can add hours, so trips start early.

### Is there still a border at Neum on the way to Split?

No. Since the Pelješac Bridge opened on 26 July 2022, the road from Dubrovnik to Split stays in Croatia. The drive is about 235 km, 3¼–3¾ hours, and a car costs €330 with the motorway tolls included.

### What is the quickest way from Dubrovnik to Split?

By road: about 235 km, 3¼–3¾ hours by car, with no border to cross. Intercity buses take about four to four and a half hours, and the seasonal catamarans roughly four and a half to six. A car with a driver costs €330, tolls included.

### Can we book a transfer from Split, Kotor or Tivat to Dubrovnik?

Yes. Every route on the price list runs in both directions at the same price, so Split to Dubrovnik costs €330 by car and Kotor to Dubrovnik €255, per vehicle. Choose the route on the booking form and switch its direction; the driver meets you at your hotel, the port or the airport.

### Can we stop on the way?

Yes, on any route or hourly booking. We confirm each stop, and anything it adds to the fixed price, before you travel.

### How much luggage fits?

The Volkswagen Passat takes three large suitcases and three cabin bags, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class two of each, and the minivans one suitcase and one cabin bag per passenger. Tell us about golf bags, bicycles or prams when you book.

### How much is a taxi from Dubrovnik Airport to the Old Town?

Travel guides checked in 2026 put it at about €35 to €60. A car with a driver costs €50 on the same route, agreed before you travel and the same at any hour, with the driver waiting in the arrivals hall. For a short ride inside the city, a taxi is usually cheaper.

### Can we use Uber or Bolt in Dubrovnik?

Yes. Both operate in Dubrovnik and show the price in the app before you book, though app prices rise with demand. From 1 April to 31 October app drivers need a City permit to enter the zone around the Old Town, so a ride may end at its edge. City taxis typically charge €5 to €9 within town.

### Do prices go up in July and August?

No. Our prices are per vehicle and the same in every month, with no surcharge for nights, weekends or holidays. Summer only makes it more important to book early, because the busiest days fill first.

### Do you collect passengers from the cruise port?

Yes, at the Gruž ferry and cruise port, about 3 km west of the Old Town. A car from the port to the Old Town costs €25, and a car with a driver by the hour can plan a whole shore day around your all-aboard time.

### Is the Old Town walkable from the cruise port?

It is about 3 km, roughly 40 minutes on foot along city streets. Buses 1A, 1B and 3 run from the stop at the port to Pile for €2.50 on board, and a car with a driver from the port to the Old Town costs €25.

### Who runs Dubrovnik Car Rent?

TECHNIC ONE d.o.o., a company registered at the Commercial Court in Dubrovnik (VAT HR63056167991). The booking office is at Marina Frapa, Lapadska obala 21a, 20000 Dubrovnik, Croatia, and you can reach it on +385 91 600 1201 or at info@dubrovnikcarrent.com.
